In the 70's, my dad used to make me roll up the newspapers and flyers into paper logs. No water, no drill, no mess. Tie the logs with string, and place seam side down on the grate. Obviously you couldn't use egg cartons that way, but they can be used as starter wicks.

So much quicker. So much easier.

We used tuna cans for and called it "tuna burner." Do a according fold inside an old tuna can with a sheet of old newspaper along the

side then circle it to can to fit then, pour on it some hot wax. Lasts a long time.

A handy fire starter comes in handy in the woods i.e from dryer lint.
